Ceasefire won’t stop evacuation of OFWs
PRESIDENT Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo yesterday welcomed the UN resolution calling for a ceasefire in Lebanon, but Philippine officials feared the situation remained volatile and urged Filipinos to take advantage of the truce to leave the war-battered country.
Another 450 overseas Filipino workers left Beirut for Damascus yesterday for a flight back to the Philippines, leaving the relocation center there empty. This indicates OFW reluctance to leave Lebanon and return home to a life of poverty and lack of opportunities, officials said.
